The Mobile Web isn’t the future—we’re living it now. 91% of the world population owns a mobile phone, and nearly 30% of the world’s population are using smartphones and tablets to browse the web, check email and make purchases.
Responsive design is great however, its’ not the panacea for every business type.
Before we get caught up in the technical aspects, your focus should always be on what really matters:
Your visitor’s experience.Creating a positive mobile user experience is important:
61% of people have a higher opinion of a brand when that brand delivers an enjoyable mobile experience. (Latitude)
57% of people say they won’t recommend companies with poor mobile sites. (Authority Labs)
Most designers and website builders approach mobile sites with one of three options –
1. Mobile-Specific Website: A separate website/URL with separate content
2. Transcoded Website: A separate website/URL with content transcoded (copied) from your main site
3. Responsive Website: A single website/URL that automatically adjusts to fit the user’s screen resolution
None of these are optimal and several are more work intensive for the business owner. Not to mention the speed component. How fast the mobile site loads has a huge effect on MOBILE search rankings too: (these are separate from your main site URL.)
